Mabuhai!!! Pronounced "Ma-Boo-Hi" is the filipino greeting for "hi, what's up, good-bye, nice seeing you" etc.
The bride and I sponsor 8 kids through World Vision-I've met one of the VIG's (very important guppies) we sponsor, Roberto in El Salvador. Many of you might remember about 5 years ago I flew to El Salvador and met him and saw the work World Vision was working on our behalf there. I was convinced of World Vision's role in this world then and needed no more validation of it. Last week's trip to The Philippines was not only further validation (that I did not need) but 100 exclamation marks, highlighted, 36 font, bold-face, italized validation.
Sponsorship of a child means a $1.13 a day sacrifice on our part. Proper nutrition, clean-life giving water, medicine, schooling and God's love among other things. BUT it's MORE than that! Towns are changed! Men and Women, Mom's and Dad's, kids are empowered to take ownership of their communities. Because of what we do by investing the $1.13 a day, reforestation of habitation lost takes place. Marine Sanctuaries are established. Rice fields are harvested, hens purchased for eggs to be sold at market, small business loans at low interest rates are issued for the purchase of motorcycles to be used as a taxi service. The Gospel demonstrated in action takes place and lives are changed! How's that for a buck-thirteen a day?
Consider sponsoring a child in The Philippines. Take a look at some of their faces. You'll get letters from them and pictures as they grow. But KNOW that you are doing so much more than just "sponsoring" them. You are impacting future generations to come! And that's money well spent.
